What is a Cellular Automata RNG?

A Cellular Automata RNG generates randomness by evolving a discrete grid of cells according to deterministic local rules. The result is high-entropy output that passes statistical tests for randomness. AKRUM multiplexes 20+ chaotic Cellular Automata rules and mixes their output with the OS CSPRNG through HKDF-SHA-256 to derive AES-256 keys — the CSPRNG is always the security floor.
How is this different from OS RNG?

OS RNGs (like /dev/urandom) collect entropy from hardware events and run it through a CSPRNG. AKRUM adds a Cellular Automata entropy source that produces fresh, hardware-independent entropy, then mixes both sources together through HKDF-SHA-256 — defense in depth, never a replacement for the OS CSPRNG.
Is AKRUM post-quantum ready?

Yes. All AKRUM data encryption uses quantum-resistant AES-256-GCM — recognized by NIST as secure against quantum attacks. Sharing between AKRUM users additionally uses post-quantum key encapsulation with hybrid ML-KEM-768 + X25519, so both the message and the key exchange are protected against future quantum attackers.
